Have your kids written their letters to Santa yet? Bring them to Macy’s and drop those letters into an official R.H. Macy Santa Mail box. What a cute way to send your Christmas lists off to the North Pole! For each letter received, Macy’s will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, up to $1 million. Visit the Macy’s Believe Website to locate a mailbox near you, enter their ‘Tell Us Why You Believe’ contest, and learn more about the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
As the annual Thanksgiving and Christmas craziness approaches, I try to remember to slow down, count my blessings, and remember that not everyone has what we are so lucky to have, including a warm place to sleep at night. One small thing I can do is to help is to donate the gently worn coats we are no longer using to local charities. It’s a good lesson for my boys too, it reminds them that there are lots of children out there less fortunate than them, and to be grateful for what they have.
If you have unused coats that you’d like to donate, check out these links to winter coat drives in the area:
The Big Boston Warm-up helps make the winter warmer for the homeless people in the Boston area. Their goal is to collect (at least) 7,681 coats, enough for every homeless person in Boston. Bring your coat to the Land’s End Shop at Sears by November 30th and receive 20% off the purchase of a new Lands End coat. Visit the Big Boston Warm-up website to view the complete list of where to donate your used coats.
The 15th Annual Coats for Kids drive will be accepting coats from October 15th to January 9th. They are looking for gently used baby, kids and adult sized winter coats . [read more…]
Halloween is just hours away, and so is the avalanche of M&M’s, gummy worms, Snickers, Kit Kats, lollipops, Laffy Taffy, bubble gum, Tootsie Rolls… There’s no way my little guys are going to be able to get
through their overflowing bags of Halloween treats by themselves, and I do try to have some restraint and not steal TOO much of their loot (but I call dibbs on Bullseyes and Milky Way Darks), so we inevitably end up with a big ole pile of candy that just sits on top of the fridge for months until I finally take action and dump it into the trash. What a waste! I’m thinking there’s a better solution, right? I posed the question to our South Shore Mamas Facebook fans and got some great suggestions on how to deal with candy overflow!
