This weekend, take the family outside to the theater!  South Shore Conservatory’s Evenings Under the Stars outdoor concert series presents Seymour Barab’s Cinderella on Sunday, July 25th at 10am.   In a show the whole family will enjoy, Opera by the Bay vocalists follow poor “Ella” as she meets her new and step-sisters and learns “there is no such thing as nobody special!” 

The performance will take place in the Jane Carr Amphitheater, at 1 Conservatory Drive in Hingham.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children in advance and at the door.  [read more…]

This Saturday, July 24th, check out the 18th annual Houghton’s Pond Fish Festival!  This family-friendly event will be held at Houghton’s Pond at the Blue Hills Reservation from 10:00am to 2:30pm at picnic site #5.  

You can take lessons in casting, knot-tying and fish identification, then cast a line into Houghton’s Pond!  The festival will include instructional clinics, fish crafts and games.   If you have fishing equipment, bring it along, as a limited quantity of fishing equipment and (free) bait will be available.

Secret Garden Tour

This Sunday, July 11th, get a sneak peak at some spectacular seaside gardens in Hull at the annual Secret Garden Tour.  Tours will be held from 10am until 3pm.  Tickets are $20 each, available at the Paragon Carousel.   Tour maps and garden narratives will be available the day of the event from 9 am – 2 pm at the Carousel and at the Weir River Estuary Center.

All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Paragon Carousel and the Hull Land Conservation Trust.  For  more information, visit the Paragon Carousel website or call 781-925-0472.

The Brockton Fair

The Brockton Fair is back in town for its 136th year, from June 30th to July 11th at the Brockton Fairgrounds!  There will be rides, a magic show, a demolition derby, a truck pull, motorcycle races and more, including fireworks!  For more information on the fair, including a schedule of events, visit the Brockton Fair website, or click here for a great write up on the event.

If you’re looking to take in a 4th of July parade or fireworks display with the kids this year, check out our list of local towns holding events in June and July!   Unfortunately, funds are tight in a lot of towns, many are still unsure if they will be able to afford their usual 4th of July celebrations, and some have already cancelled their plans.  In light of this, our list is a work in progress, and we’ll be adding to it as we receive new information.  Please feel free to comment if you know your town is planning something for the 4th!   [read more…]

The Friends of Hope, a committee of the Friends of South Shore Hospital, invite the public to peek inside the secret main Street gardens of Hingham.  Eight Hingham homeowners are opening up their private gardens to raise money for the Journey of Hope campaign to support cancer care programs at South Shore Hospital.    [read more…]
