October 2009

Halloween is just hours away, and so is the avalanche of M&M’s, gummy worms, Snickers, Kit Kats, lollipops, Laffy Taffy, bubble gum, Tootsie Rolls…    There’s no way my little guys are going to be able to get candy_pilethrough their overflowing bags of Halloween treats by themselves, and I do try to have some restraint and not steal TOO much of their loot (but I call dibbs on Bullseyes and Milky Way Darks), so we inevitably end up with a big ole pile of candy that just sits on top of the fridge for months until I finally take action and dump it into the trash.  What a waste!  I’m thinking there’s a better solution, right?   I posed the question to our South Shore Mamas Facebook fans and got some great suggestions on how to deal with candy overflow!

Witch’s Brew Goo

October 28, 2009 · 0 comments

witch brew gooMy five-year-old came home from school today with a recipe for something called ‘Witch’s Brew Goo’.  He was pretty excited about it, said they made it at school, that it was REALLY cool, and could we please make it RIGHT NOW??  By now my three-year-old was all psyched up too, and we had the ingredients, so we went for it!

jackolantern 2009bI carved a lovely Jack-O-Lantern this year (if I do say so myself).  I proudly display it in the living room, lighting it up each night to make the house more festive.  Last night when I went to light my darling pumpkin, I noticed that it was getting kind of wilted and a little bit moldy!  I swear this has never been a problem in past years, and it was kind of  gross, so I went searching online for tips to avoid wilty, moldy Jack-O-Lanterns, so that no other South Shore Mamas will have to be the moldy-pumpkin-lady.  Here’s what I found… [read more…]

Loving Fall Photos!

October 22, 2009 · 2 comments

cameraYesterday the kids and I had a photo session with a local photographer named Amy Kelly.   I loved working with her so much that I just had to share!

I honestly can’t say enough good things about Amy.  She chose a great location for our photo shoot (a gorgeous rustic farm in Milton), and knew which shots she wanted to get so there was no time wasted.  (This was greatly appreciated since my youngest was missing her afternoon nap to get her picture taken).  She took time to talk with each of my children to make them feel comfortable, and was extremely patient with my two energetic boys and one slightly cranky little girl.  The pictures Amy took are cute and sweet and really capture the kids’ individual personalities.  It was a great experience overall…  we had a beautiful Fall day, the kids got to have fun running around outside instead of being stuck under a bunch of hot lights in a studio, and I got some gorgeous shots of my precious babies!

October 20, 2009 · 0 comments

turkey3I am not a runner.  I’m more of a stand-on-the-sidelines-cheering-you-on kind of girl, but I have a great appreciation for those who get out there and run in all sorts of weather just because they love it.  So, for you runners out there, here are some local Thanksgiving Day/Week races:

5 Must Haves for your Child’s Busy Bag

October 14, 2009

Most of the Moms I know have a ‘Busy Bag’ filled with quiet activities and books for restaurants, doctors visits, plane trips… anytime the kids will be waiting, bored, and heading to that ‘whiny’ place. This bag is a lifesaver if you have kids under the age of 6. If you’ve ever been stuck in a packed ‘grownup’ doctors office with three small children and no toddler toys in site, you know what I mean…
