In order to beat the rainy day, stuck-in-the-house boredom without spending big bucks at play places and museums, I’ve turned to science.  Science experiments that is; simple, kid-friendly, fun little activities that the boys and I have really been getting into!   Kids Science Experiments is a great website with lots of easy projects listed by topic (Balancing & Gravity, Mixing & Separating, Surprising Senses, etc.).  Yesterday afternoon we did the Float or Sink Experiment, chosen because it looked fun, and I happened to have all the materials already in the house. Local CPR Classes

February 10, 2010 · 2 comments

I don’t know CPR.  I wish I did, I think it’s a critical tool for any mom to have, but somehow it always ends up at the bottom of my to-do list, pushed onto the next day, the next week, the next month.  I have now made it my mission to learn CPR & First Aid in 2010.  The way my boys run around this place and have NO fear of jumping off of the most ridiculous things, I’m afraid I’m gonna need it sooner than later.

All About CPR is a local CPR certification company that teaches health care professionals, restaurant managers, daycare staff, moms and grandparents how to perform CPR and First Aid.  Training classes are offered weekly [read more…]

Indoor Snow Day!

February 10, 2010 · 0 comments

Let me preface this post by saying that I cannot take creative ownership of the following fun idea.  It was totally copied from my  younger son’s preschool, which is a very creative and fun place for little minds!

Sometimes snow days are not great for outside play.  Sometimes blizzard conditions keep up inside watching the snow come down through frosty windows.  During our last snow storm, when we were forced to stay indoors, the kids and I declared an ‘Indoor Snow Day’!

We started by baking a yummy batch of chocolate chip cookies [read more…]

My 4-year-old is constantly asking to use the “ABC website”. Letter sounds are introduced in a fun, animated way that Sam can navigate through himself with minimal supervision…

Enjoying the Small Things: A Birth Story

February 4, 2010

I came across this blog entry from Enjoying The Small Things today and literally sobbed while reading this beautiful birth story of Nella, a baby girl born with Down Syndrome. Kelle’s words are inspiring, and the pictures are breathtaking. Take a few minutes to read it when the kids are napping, or are tucked into bed tonight. Don’t forget the tissues, you’ll need them.
