Keep busy during April Vacation week with camps and drop-in activities all over the South Shore.  Whether you’re into dancing, singing, science or nature, there’s something there for you!

HAVE BREAKFAST WITH THE CONDORS
Where: 
Franklin Park Zoo, Boston
When:  April 20 from 9:15 – 10:00 a.m.
Cost:  $10 for members/$12 for non-members (children under 2 eat FREE!).
Looking for a truly unique experience that the whole family can enjoy? Sign-up for the Breakfast with the Andean Condors program on April 20 at Franklin Park Zoo! Franklin Park Zoo is home to two Andean condors. These majestic birds can have impressive 10-foot wingspans and are one of the largest flying birds in the world. Registrants for this program will receive special early entry to the Zoo and breakfast. A staff member will be available to answer questions and talk about the Andean condors. SCHOOL VACATION AT FRANKLIN PARK ZOO
Where:  Franklin Park Zoo, Boston
When:  April 15-19, 2013, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Cost:  $200 per member/$250 per non-member.
Looking for something fun to do during school vacation? Sign-up for the April Awesome Animal Adaptations program at Franklin Park Zoo. This vacation week program session will include a combination of animal encounters, art and crafts, behind-the-scenes tours, games and activities. APRIL AUTHOR PROGRAM
Where: 
Preschool on Wheels Learning Center, 11 Church Hill, Norwell
When:  Wed-Fri (4/17-4/19) from 9:30-10:45
Cost:  $12 per class or all three classes for $30 (snack will be provided)
We are spotlighting the works of Eric Carle by featuring the books:

  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar (Wed.)
  • The Foolish Tortoise (Thurs)
  • The Mixed Up Chameleon (Fri)

ROCK CAMP
Where:
  South Shore Conservatory Hingham campus, One Conservatory Drive
When:  April 15-19, 12-3pm
Explore scales and soloing, rhythm playing, chords and inversions, licks and techniques, as well as learn effective listening and improvisational skills. Vocalists experience both lead and backup parts. Band rehearsals focus on stage presence, interacting with an audience and overall sound development.  Ages 12-16  {more}

GLEE CAMP
Where:
  South Shore Conservatory Duxbury campus, 64 St. George
When:  April 15-19, 9am-2pm
Glee Camp allows singers ages 10 to 16 to immerse themselves in their favorite songs as they work on both large and small group numbers. Students are grouped by age and are coached in healthy vocal technique and style, stage presence, mic technique, movement and choreography. Interested students also have the opportunity to perform a solo in the final show on Friday, April 19. {more}

MOVIN’ AND GROOVIN’ CAMP
Where:
  South Shore Conservatory Duxbury campus, 64 St. George
When:  April 15-19, 2-4pm
Movin’ and Groovin’ provides kids ages 10 to 14 one week of movement instruction geared for the creative dancer. Each day is themed and covers various dance styles, and how to create, stage and choreograph individual routines. Dancers learn technique and skills to continue their own dance journey.  {more}

BIG FOOT WEEK
Where:  The Children’s Museum in Easton, 9 Sullivan Ave, Easton
When:  April 13-19
Cost:  Free with museum admission
Do you believe in Big Foot? There have been reports of Big Foot all over the world (including Massachusetts!) but the only way to find out if they are real is to investigate! Since Big Foot seems to live in wooded areas, you’ll need to learn all you can about the wilderness before investigating.  Join us for a fun-filled week of science and nature activities as we learn all about animal tracks, investigate the sounds animals make, and learn about the other animals that share the wilderness with Big Foot.  {more}

APRIL VACATION WEEK ADVENTURE DAYS AT MASS AUDUBON
Where: 
Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary, Westport
When: April 15-19
Cost:  $40/day or $175/week per child for Mass Audubon Members; $50/day or $225/week per child for non-members. There is a 10% sibling discount.
Mass Audubon Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary is offering an exciting vacation week
opportunity for children in grades K-5 that encourages and activates a child’s sense of curiosity and love of nature!  Each day starts with a discovery map, charting the course for the day’s program topic. We’ll start exploring each topic indoors with some learning games and activities, then venture outside for more investigation, field trip fun and ecological
exploration!  Each day starts at 8am and ends at 4pm. Participants must wear and bring suitable clothing and footwear for outdoor activity and a sack lunch. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided in the program cost. Field trip transportation is provided by Mass Audubon, or you may choose to drop your child off and pick them up at our off-site location for that day.  {more}

SPRING VACATION FARMERS, AGES 4-K
Where:
Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary, Lincoln
When: Mon, Apr 15, 2013 9:30 am – 12:00 pm
Cost:  Children $22.00m/ $27.00nm
Pull on your overalls and boots and prepare to get down and dirty with farm chores! Help feed the chickens and check to see if any eggs have been laid. The cows need mucking out – will that be your chore? Do some digging in the garden as well. After our work is done, we can explore and enjoy a fresh farm treat.  {more}

Where:  Blue Hills Trailside Museum
When:  April 16-19, 8:30am-3pm
Cost:  Children $235m/$285nm
Play games, create animal themed crafts, explore the Blue Hills, and meet some of our resident animals up close as we investigate different New England wildlife families during April school vacation week on Chickatawbut Hill.
MAGNIFICENT MOMS – Tuesday
Many local animals have magnificent moms who take care of them as they grow up. Learn what these moms do to make them special.
DELIGHTFUL DADS – Wednesday
Several local animals have delightful dads who hunt for food and protect their young. Join us as we discover what these animal fathers do.
WE ARE FAMILY – Thursday
Strength in numbers is the way to go for some local wildlife. Find out which animals stay together as a family unit to support one another.
ON MY OWN – Friday
Some animals are on their own right from birth. Explore the challenges these babies face in order to survive on their own.  {more}

PARTY FOR THE PLANET

HEAD OVER HEELS GYMNASTICS

Where:  Head Over Heels Gymnastics, 412 Washington Street, Norwell, MA

Half Day
M-F 9:30-12:00
In our camp programs, the morning is dedicated entirely to gymnastics. Half day camp is best suited for those children who want to work on just their gymnastics skills. The half day program is also perfect for younger children who are nervous about being away from home for a full day. The half-day program includes structured gymnastics rotations as well as open gym time.

Full Day
M-F, 9:30-3:30
Full day camp includes structured gymnastics rotations and open gym time during the morning portion of camp. Full day camp also includes lunch time, games, more gymnastics time, and swimming field trips! Each week at camp is a different experience with our weekly summer themes.

WEYMOUTH SPRING CARNIVAL
April 17-21
expowheelhe Town of Weymouth is sponsoring a Spring Carnival Fundraiser from Wednesday, April 17th through Sunday, April 21st, held at Weymouth High School (1 Wildcat Way).  Stop by for carnival rides, games, food and a daily petting zoo.  Featured rides this year include the all new Expo Wheel (pictured left), Vertigo and the Freakout and more.
